Lorinda Menchavez
About the Artist

In my creation, I enjoy going into another world where there are no rules, no regulations, and no limits--a place where I find just the wholeness of being in process with the creation.  Each sculpture, each vessel, is an expression of me I wish to share.

Lorinda Menchavez is an artist of ancient Assyrian heritage.  She came to the U.S. in the 1970's, via Australia, Singapore, and India.

Also known as "Lolo", her fascination with clay began when she traveled to a small village in Rezaiah, Iran for a summer vacation.

But it was not until 1985 that Lolo decided to follow her dream in a formal way.  She traveled through Europe, studied European history and art, and earned a degree in art.  This was followed by many years of carefully crafted development through workshops, self-teaching, and stringent application to her work.

With exposure to many influences since then, including numerous foreign and domestic trips, Lolo has experimented with many new techniques that have added richness to the strong cultural character that was already evident in her work.

With many years of experiences, she typically draws on wide variety of methods to make and fire her pieces.  Whatever the method; all finished pieces of work are sculptural works of art, many are functional as well.

In her forms, Lolo captures the viewers' attention with elegant curves and distinctive textures that are earthly and genuine, leaving a sublime sense of serenity and mystery.
